Since the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2019, Pictora has explored how best to support the goals.
The Key goals that Pictora is helping to support are:
SDG 3 - Good health and well-being
This SDG is being achieved through Pictora's use of creative projects in prison and Made Visible exhibitions. These actions help develop self-esteem, motivation and helps sustain family relationships during difficult times, both in prison and upon release. Art and poetry provide and excellent space for valuable mindfulness, which can help with well-being. The Pictora photography 'Walks and Talk'. provide excellent opportunities for informal mentoring and counselling.
SDG 4 - Quality education
Through special projects, Pictora provides different types of learning opportunities in prison. These have include business skills programmes, Social Vaccination actions, learning around Creativity and its linkage to the new Connected Economy, programmes to help build social capital and personal brands, developing negotiation skills and behaviours. Pictora has help develop content for prison based Insider Access magazine's.
SDG 5 - Gender equality
Pictora has delivered support and training to both men and women in prison and through probation in the community.
SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth
Pictora uses creativity to develop motivation and a 'can do' attitude and employability skills. Past Pictora candidates have progressed to setting up their own business, entering sustainable employment, with some starting work with 3rd Sector organisations.
SDG 10 - Reduced inequalities
Individuals in prison, ex-offenders in the community and their families are some of the most vulnerable people in society. All the work and projects of Pictora aim to reduce the inequalities that they face, through where possible opening up new doors of opportunities.
SDG 13 - Climate action
Underpinning the work of Pictora is a strong awareness of the need for climate action. This is embedded in our materials used and actions of our volunteers. The card used by our printers for greeting cards holds FSC certification. Cellos that our cards are placed in are bio degradable.
SDG 17 - Partnership for the goals
Pictora actively seeks to work with other organisations that share our values and also helps to address the challenges identified in the UN's SDG's.
